The Lake District
Local Area
Calgarth is set in parkland with our southerly outlook towards Windermere and the Lakeland hills.
Situated down a private drive, off the A591, we are only 1.5 miles from Windermere, with its shops, restaurants, banks, library, post office and railway station.
Ambleside is 3 miles to the north and has excellent restaurants, a multi-screen cinema, the Armitt Museum and access to the lake for cruises.
In the local area there is Blackwell Arts and Crafts house, Sizergh Castle, Wray Castle, the Old Laundry Theatre and Brantwood.
The old market town of Kendal not only has independent shops but is a cultural centre with the Brewery Arts Centre, Abbot Hall Art Gallery, the Museum of Lakeland Life, the Quaker Tapestry and regular music concerts.
Calgarth is half an hour from junction 36 of the M6 giving easy access north and south and the station at Oxenholme is on the West Coast mainline, making it easy for friends and family to visit. We also have an excellent bus service from the A591 at the end of the drive.
Keswick is 30-40 minutes drive to the north through wonderful scenery and besides the bustling town itself, with the Theatre by the Lake and Derwentwater, it also gives access to the northern Lakes.
